The Christmas “Grand Conjunction” of Jupiter
and Saturn were supposed to be a “Christmas
Star”. They turned out to be Christmas dots.
So, I have painted 45 stars for Christmas
based on an idea by Damien M. Jones. Jones
was Senior/Lead Developer/Web Development
for WildCard Systems. He built stored-value
card web sites to allow cardholders to review
their balance and transaction history, transfer
money to and from their cards, and purchase
new cards. Jones, Janet Parke, and Linda
Allison became pioneer fractal artists.
I set my 45 paintings to an arrangement of
We Three Kings by Matt Riley. The glorious
arrangement is on the internet at~
The violin is played by Erika Blanco and was recorded
at New Hope Church in New Hope, Minnesota with
Pastor Jeff McCourt conducting. (Pastor Jeff is now at
Cedar Heights Baptist Church is Cedar Falls, Iowa.)
The Christmas carol “We Three Kings” was written
by John Henry Hopkins Jr. in 1857. Hopkins was
the rector of Christ Episcopal Church in Williamsport,
Pennsylvania. He wrote the carol for a Christmas
pageant in New York City. The lyrics below refer to
“The Christmas Star”.
We three kings of orient are,
bearing gifts we traverse afar
field and fountain, moor and mountain,
following yonder star.
Oh, star of wonder, star of night,
star with royal beauty bright.
westward leading, still proceeding,
guide with thy perfect light.
Born a King on Bethlehem’s plain,
gold I bring to crown him again
King for ever, ceasing never
over us all to reign.
Frankincense to offer have I,
incense owns a Deity nigh
prayer and praising, all men raising,
worship Him, God most high.
